DUES EVENTS

MARCH 11th-15th

Engineering Week was a massive success with hundreds of students participating throughout the week. On Monday, all 12 of the engineering teams that participated in the Escape Room event were able to beat the rooms which was a new record for the company. On Tuesday, meditation turned out to be a great experience for students to relax and de-stress and on Wednesday, bowling was a strikingly good time for all that went. Thursday was the highlight of the week with DUES hosting a very successful comedy show. The comedians will hopefully be brought back soon. Stay tuned for more DUES events in the upcoming semester!

ENG WEEK RECAP

IRON RING 2019

MARCH 9th

The Iron ring ceremony is a sacred Canadian engineering tradition dating back to the 1920’s. While the ceremony itself is only open to those graduating and graduates who already possess the Iron ring, the post-ceremony events were open to all guests. The events were held at the Keith’s Brewery, Halifax Distilling Co., T-Room, and Lower Deck. The turnout was a huge success and we congratulate all graduates and wish them the best of luck with the rest of their semester, their Capstone projects and their future careers.

U-Sports Final 8

March 8th-10th

With two engineering students on the men’s basketball team, Cedric Sanogo and Samuel Wade, the AUS Basketball Championship was one to watch. The men’s team won the AUS Championship on March 3rd with a 65-55 win over Saint Mary’s University, while unfortunately, the women’s team lost to the eventual winners, Acadia University, in the quarter final. The U-Sports Men’s Basketball Final 8 was also hosted in Halifax from March 8th-10th. After conquering the Atlantic provinces, the Dalhousie men’s team played against universities from across the country. After beating University of British Columbia in the quarter finals, the Tigers fell to the eventual champions, Carleton University, 76-65 and had to settle for a consolation game where they lost to Ryerson University 84-66. Dalhousie is extremely proud of both teams and are proud of the men’s team for placing 4th in the nation.

January 24th-27th

The Atlantic Engineering Competition (AEC) brings together over 150 students from 9 different universities located across the Maritime provinces. The conference consists of 8 competition categories: Senior Design, Junior Design, Consulting, Programming, Innovative Design, Re-Engineering, Engineering Communications and Parliamentary Debate. Students must qualify at their respective university’s competition in order to compete at the regional level. Those who place at AEC move on to compete at the Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC) which brings together winners of all the regional competitions. AEC was hosted by Dalhousie University this year with 24 of our own in attendance. 11 of these students were able to move on to and do very well at CEC, held this year at the University of Waterloo.

The Green Engineering Networking Conference 2019 (GENC) was the 2nd iteration of a conference organized by engineering students at Dalhousie University designed to bring together senior engineering students, recent graduates and industry professionals to showcase emerging trends in green technology. The theme of this year’s conference was “Sustainable Development and Technology” and different companies and organizations presented the philosophies and technologies that they employ relating to the theme. Specific topics covered in the presentations and showcases were: the development of green technologies, the usage of remediation techniques, alternative energy resources, balancing environmentally sustainable methods and industrial development. Be sure to look out for this conference again next year as it’s an excellent opportunity to network and grow professionally!
